• If you have a large piece of furniture and limited space, get rid of it. If it doesn't fit your space, it shouldn't be in that room.

• Sports equipment doesn't need to be in the bedroom. If you only use it now and then, find a place for it in the garage. If everything has a proper home, it will be easier to clean up.

• Reference books are important, but if you don't use them, they are just adding to the clutter. Sell unused ones at a yard sale, or donate them to a local library.

• Making a yard sale fun helps bring people in. Play with the toys you have for sale, or set up a fun game for the kids. If the kids are involved, the parents follow, and often buy something.

• If you have old magazines you want to take into work, cut the name and address tag off. Tie a pair of scissors to the basket where the magazines are kept. When the basket gets full, it's time to take them to work, or recycle them.

• If you have autographed sports memorabilia, get the proper display case to house it. A transparent case will let you show it off, and protect it from damage.
