Fashion and advertising photographer Richard Dean spent over 15 years in the fashion industry. Based in New York, Dean worked worldwide in both advertising and editorial with clients such as Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, Yves St. Laurent, Reebok, Nike, Fujifilm, Beck’s Beer, Miller Beer, Michelob Beer, Fila, Champion, Playboy, TV Guide, FHM, Sport, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar.
Dean began his fashion career in front of the camera after being spotted in a bar by a commercial talent scout. After a number of years posing for the camera, his love for photography grew. He believed in the organic flow of emotion and ideas and, when shooting, aimed to capture that one significant moment of innate honesty.
As one of the top fashion and commercial photographers in the industry, Dean was finally combining his passion for photography with his natural ease in front of the lens by joining the team of TLC’s Cover Shot, alongside host supermodel Frederique van der Wal.
In addition, Dean had also been featured as a guest celebrity judge on UPN’s America's Next Top Model with Tyra Banks and, cinematically, co-starred opposite two-time Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello. Dean’s photography incorporated his unique style of digital capture and often included digital compositing, along with vivid colors, movement, energy and emotion.
Sadly, Richard passed away on December 27, 2006 after a brief illness. In lieu of flowers, Richard's family has asked that donations be made in his name to the
Pancreatic Cancer Society. Memorial services will be held for Richard in Bethesda, MD on January 13 and in New York on January 27.
