Deryl realized his dream of becoming involved in the realm of parapsychology in 1999, when he joined a local group dedicated to exploring the paranormal. He participated in numerous investigations during his three years with the group and later went on to become its director. In that role, he was in charge of 125 members and handled all investigations, research and experiments. Deryl's hard work gained him attention in the media; he was featured in several New Jersey newspapers and appeared on CNN, Comcast and the Fairview, N.J. public access channel.
Wanting to develop his goals further, Deryl left the group and founded the Preternatural Research Society (PRS) on May 1, 2002. PRS is composed of serious researchers interested in studying the paranormal on a much more professional and comprehensive level than is the current standard. Under Deryl’s tutelage, the society hosts séances, performs research and conducts experiments concerning all things paranormal.
At 31, Deryl is an expert on the occult and a wealth of information on all things paranormal. He can tell you the difference between a ghost and a spirit, a demon and an entity.
Deryl’s first psychic experience occurred four years ago. He has conducted ghost investigations for several years and experiences odd feelings and physical tingling sensations throughout his body while in the presence of the paranormal. Deryl has heightened intuition and can “sense” energy patterns. These feelings seem to jive with those of the more experienced psychics around him.
Deryl isn’t actively trying to develop his psychic abilities, but he remains open to their existence. At this point in his psychic development, Deryl’s abilities remain in the realm of impressions and feelings; he is unable to communicate or interact with the paranormal, and has never actually “seen” an apparition.
Another of Deryl’s talents is “house cleansing” — an ability for which one does not need to be psychic, he says. Deryl’s method of cleansing homes of evil entities and foul energy involves a combination of Native American, African and Celtic rituals, as well as herbs and incense.
Deryl's most memorable and powerful experiences with the paranormal include a demon cleansing in Lodi, N.J., in January 2004. While he and his companions managed to cleanse the home of the demon, it was a frightening experience, during which fellow PRS member Kenny Roginski became seriously ill and was hospitalized. The demonic entities were eventually driven out. This investigation ultimately proved satisfying when an upstairs neighbor (who had no prior knowledge of PRS or their involvement) remarked that “the house never felt so clean.”
As Deryl puts it, PRS is well-respected in “paranormal circles.” What makes PRS stand out is the comprehensiveness of its investigations, reports and Web site. Unlike most other groups, PRS strikes a balance between normal and paranormal, mixing scientific and psychic methods of investigation. In addition its team conducts exhaustive historical research, and the substance of their investigations is way above par.
In his "other" job, Deryl works with autistic children. He is also a freelance Web designer.
