Brief History
While people his age are trying to figure out what to do with their lives, Mat is busying flipping houses and opening nightclubs. At the young age of 24, Mat wheels and deals with his flip, as Mat has convinced his friends to work for free as they renovate his latest project. As they get started on the flip, Mat quickly learns that with age, comes experience.
Step by Step Explanation
Mat tours the house with each one of his friends. They start off in the kitchen, where Mat and Tyler hope to open up a wall and create a center island. Mat then meets with Adam and talks about installing hard wood floors in the hallway.
In the bedroom, Mat, Devon and Ash discuss adding a light fixture and painting the walls. In the master bedroom, Mat wants to add wall scones and re-do his walk in closet.
Finally, in the backyard, Mat and his girlfriend Lora try to create a space that dogs will enjoy.
After consulting with his friends, work begins on Mat's flip slowly, as they can only work on weekends. Demo begins in the kitchen as Mat learns he should have spent the money to rent a dumpster. He will now have to pay for the dumpster and the labor to fill it. Mat inspects his new walk-in closet and is very pleased.
Mat buys a new front door but learns that doors are not "one size fits all". The group will have to build a new doorjamb and won't be able to start on it till next weekend. They give it a go the following Saturday and the new door fits perfect. Work on the curb appeal begins, and Mat and Lora argue over river and white rocks.
Mat's flip has been pushed behind schedule and over budget since his friends can only work on the weekends. Mat decides to have professional roofers work on his roof and finds the lowest bid off the Internet. It ends up being a disaster as these unlicensed contractors drip tar all over his garage door and remind him that he "gets what he paid for".
Mat is unable to completely finish his restoration, but he decides to have his property evaluated to make sure he is still on course to make a profit. Realtors Olga Brandeis and Adam Alworth come to evaluate Mat's work. Olga and Adam provide some suggestions for additional repairs that might add value to the house. They then propose a listing price based on "comps" in the local area.
