Helene and Colin are moving up to Harlem, but the apartment they’re buying is too masculine for their taste. Current owner Bernard is attached to his sleek bachelor pad, which holds special significance for him as an African-American. Sad to go, but ready for a larger apartment, Bernard is buying his new home from Addys. Addys has chosen to decorate his home by stapling posters to the wall that reflect his own personal achievements and cultural pride. Bernard brings in his decorator, Aunt Lu, to erase the "distasteful" décor and put in a sexy look befitting of an upscale businessman. Will Addys freak out to see a new vision of Harlem planted in his old home?
Helene and Colin
Helene and Colin are French-Canadian attorneys living in New York City. They're moving from an Upper West Side rental to their first apartment purchase, in Harlem, to accommodate their 3-year-old daughter, Julia. They describe their style as "eclectic" and can't stand the masculinity of the apartment they're buying. Helene and Colin want to bring the history of their new home back by restoring its Art Deco décor and original layout of the early 1900's.
Bernard (and his decorator, Aunt Lu)
Bernard is a TV network executive and self-described Southern gentleman. He feels he has "grown up" in his apartment and has woven his own cultural roots into the fabric of his Harlem home. Bernard has purchased a 2-story condo duplex. The only problem is he can't stand the décor and "antiseptic" white paint color. So, with the help of his dear Aunt Lu, Bernard wants to create a sexy, masculine bachelor pad.
Addys
Addys is a senior bachelor and part-time postal worker who loves living in Harlem. He is really proud of his home, since it's the first he ever purchased on his own. He has brought a sense of Harlem into his home by stapling posters of jazz musicians to his walls.
