Prep Work Required
Make sure to have a large, open space with a drop cloth and room to maneuver and to be able to use staple gun and glue without risk of damaging floors or carpets. It is also important to have all materials needed nearby, ready for use before glue dries.
Materials Needed
Screen frame
Rice paper
White Elmer’s glue
Drop cloth
Scissors or box cutter
Staple gun
Hammer
Extra fine grit sandpaper
Spray bottle for water
Hair dryer
Basic hand tools
Two floor lights
Dimming extension cord
Process
Step 1: On a flat surface, lay the screen frame on the drop cloth. Run a small line of glue along all of the edges of the frame and using your finger rub it around so it covers the entire surface.
Step 2: Carefully place the rice paper down over the first panel of the screen and then cut the paper away from the roll. Leave an overlap at all ends which will be trimmed off later.
Step 3: Firmly press down along all the edges of the frame, smoothing out the paper so it can adhere easier. Let it dry for a few minutes.
Step 4: Staple down the edges of the paper with the staple gun about 2 to 3 inches apart from each other on all sides of the frame. Lightly hammer in staples if necessary.
Step 5: Using the scissors or box cutter, carefully trim down the excess paper from the edges of the frame while holding it down to make sure it remains straight.
Step 6: Afterwards, take the sandpaper and carefully sand across the edge of the frame and paper, creating a neat, even look.
Step 7: Using the spray water bottle, mist evenly over the paper, but don’t get it too damp. Then, use the hair dryer to dry the paper, which will cause the paper to tighten and give it a cleaner look. Heavier papers will require heavier mist and more drying time.
Step 8: Once screen is finished, set it up in the desired location and connect the two floor lights to the dimming extension cord and place them behind the screen and you are finished!
