James received his 1971 Dodge Challenger from his dad, as a graduation present years ago. James' wife Stephanie knows that James wants the car to be a slick, sleek, raging muscle car, instead of the beaten weekend project that it is. She contacted Overhaulin', and the A-Team — Chip Foose, Shawn Williams, Tracy Tichenor, Jason Garrett, Tim Herren, Phil Wilson, Aaron McDonald, John Hopper and Shane Boulay — was dispatched to the rescue.

During the week of the build, James is told that the car has been stolen, learning later that it's been taken by a shop that is playing a game with the law. The game: insist that the car owner allowed both the handover of the car and the work done on it. Bringing James to the shop in question, James is asked to help with a police sting. James agrees. Quickly audio-wired and conversing with the "Crooked Shop Owner," James is finally informed that Overhaulin' took his Dodge and made it into a dream car!
