Designer Laura Day joined Trading Spaces in its fourth season. Laura's outgoing and adventurous spirit paired with her appreciation of classical design principles give her rooms an understated elegance tinged with a certain joie de vivre. Form and function are the foundation of her design philosophy. Trading Spaces marks her national television debut.

Professional Background:
While she has studied art and design at Hendrix College, The Finishing School, The New York School of Interior Design, and in a plethora of painting and design classes, Laura credits her time at Conover Restoration on Martha's Vineyard — the hands-on, deconstruction-to-reconstruction, to breathtaking finished design as her most valuable "degree." Her work has been praised in prestigious publications such as The New York Times, New York Magazine, Vogue, and Traditional Home. Based in Soho, New York, Laura Day Design specializes in high-end residential design and boutique commercial projects.

Personal History:
Laura's journey from Southeast Arkansas to Manhattan has been filled with interesting twists and turns. She was born on August 28, 1972 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and was raised in nearby Dumas (farm country of the Arkansas Delta), later moving to Little Rock. Growing up, she rode horses and spent most of her time outdoors. Laura has traveled extensively through Europe and Asia and lived in many U.S cities like San Francisco, New Orleans, Martha's Vineyard and, of course, New York City. You'll find traces of the places she loves in her colorful and unusual takes on design.

Design Style:
Laura's style was described by The New York Times as "thoughtful, easy elegance." Any space, according to Laura, can be transformed to fulfill its functionality and express the client's sense of beauty and personality. Bold at times, Laura's work remains grounded in classic design principles and shapes soft, tailored, clean looks for her projects.

The Rooms:
Laura's rooms are generally sophisticated, yet simple designs bringing natural elements into sharp focus. Often Asian-inspired touches are employed to give a sense of serenity to the space. Clean lines, comfortable yet dramatic furnishings and careful use of color and lighting are key to her work.

Quotable Laura:
"It's all about vision — the vision of the designer and the vision of the client."
