New Orleans: Freret Street

Gary and Heather own a traditional home in one of the oldest neighborhoods in one of the oldest cities in the United States. Their only design requirement is that their room maintain its traditional "Creole cottage" feel. Designer Barry Wood, however, mixes traditional and modern elements in the room to push Gary and Heather toward a new design style. Sheer blue curtains match the modern print on Heather's traditional couch. The well-used fireplace is surrounded by a mirror, candles and art that bring in modern touches. The ultimate insult? Painted wood cutouts nailed between the room's exposed beams. As Heather says to friend Stephanie after the reveal, "I'm not mad, but you'll be helping me fix it."
