To create a space for two "tween" girls to sleep and work, Laurie Smith's design includes elements of femininity with an edge of sophistication. As requested by the sisters, Laurie's color palette consists of lavender, mint greens, soft pinks and muted yellows. Bunk beds are replaced with a daybed/trundle combination that works as a sofa and window seat during the day. True to her usual style, Laurie's fabrics play a large part in the room as the window treatment evolves from drab drapes to a cornice with curtains that frame the daybed. The ceiling fan is, of course, removed.
