After deciding acting wasn't the career for her, Dr. Maxine Anderson became a medical student. Now in her fifth year of surgical residency, Dr. Anderson celebrates her promotion to chief of her trauma team. But the happy occasion is short lived, as she's called to help a car crash victim who is suffering a seizure, as well as a young man who's been shot several times.
