Original Airdate: Oct. 10, 2000
City: Denver, Colo.
Hospital: Denver Health Medical Center
Doctor Profile: Dr. Wade Smith
Case Study: Your Baby or Your Eye

Denver, the threshold of the "Wild West," is comprised of an extremely varied landscape, and the medical emergencies reflect just that diversity. Ski slopes and hiking trails are often scenes of serious mishaps, while city streets and construction sites are the backdrops for serious accidents. When injuries occur in Denver, victims are brought to the Denver Health Medical Center, the region's largest level-one trauma center. In this episode, the emergency team works hard to comfort the families of patients, and remain calm and collected as they tackle non-stop tragedy: two men are rushed to the hospital after falling thirty feet off an icy roof; a woman suffers serious injuries as a result of a head-on auto collision; a man's foot is crushed by a 3,000 lb. block of concrete; a competitive snowboarder flies off a 60-foot cliff; and a man who has been in a knife fight suffers from a wound to the neck.
