Louisville, Kentucky is best known as the home of the Kentucky Derby. This annual celebration brings national attention to Louisville and a 500,000 horseracing fans ready to party. Which means more cars on the roads, more drinking and more partying. As the doctors at University of Louisville Hospital will tell you, this means more trauma cases for the only level-one trauma center for hundreds of miles around. University Hospital is a small-town hospital that experiences big-city trauma. This episode features four inspired young residents as they practice emergency medicine: a young boy suffers life threatening head injuries in a car crash; a man's ear has been severely torn as a result of domestic violence; a family feud begins with a shooting; a woman suffers fatal injuries in a car accident; and a truck driver suffers a severe cut on his arm.
