Meet the LoCash Cowboys
LoCash — they're not just a band, but a way of life! Who are these guys, and what are they all about?
Preston Bust and Chris Lucas are the LoCash Cowboys. City slicker Chris was born and raised outside Baltimore, Md., while country boy Preston, born in Demont, Ark., grew up in Kokomo, Ind. Despite their different surroundings, both grew up immersed in music. They listened to and sang soul classics, rock, pop and country. Chris started performing early, dancing to and singing country and R&B standards solo and in groups. Meanwhile, Preston belted gospel standards in church and began to write his own country songs. Separately, but at the same time, they began to ask, “What if?” What if they could infuse country music with a classic soul vibe? What if they could incorporate the dance presence of their R&B heroes into country entertainment? What if they could stretch country music’s big tent further than it had ever been stretched?
In time, they each moved to Nashville and met — some would say — by happenstance. Fast forward two years and the LoCash Cowboys have answered those “what if” questions. Male, female, young, old, it doesn't matter — they all raise their hands, shout out loud, and rock along with LoCash, simply because it’s impossible not to. You can’t come to a LoCash show and not leave without an ear-to-ear grin.
Now, word is getting out, and LoCash’s 2005 schedule is proof. The guys have touched down in Wisconsin, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Indiana, Arkansas and everywhere in between. They’ve gone to Seattle (twice) to do corporate gigs for Starbucks and Expedia. To keep the hometown fans happy, they’ve established a mini-residency at the world-famous Tootsie’s in Nashville, for when they get a break from the road. And when the LoCash Cowboys aren’t performing live, they manage to squeeze in a little time in front of the camera. First, CMT featured them in an episode of its original program Popularity Contest. Now, the boys are at it again, this time appearing with country legend Tanya Tucker in Tuckerville.
