small text
large text

General Rules:

  • Muscular Body: Effect an hourglass shape through structured clothes.
  • Show off: Wear skirts to present nicely shaped, muscular legs.
  • Broad Shoulders: Take away emphasis on broad shoulders by wearing V-necks, and not wearing shoulder pads.
  • Short Neck: Elongate the neckline by wearing V-necks.
  • Sack of Potatoes: Wear form fitting clothes that are not baggy.
  • Step Up: Look taller by wearing A-line skirts and lined pants.
  • A Dash of Color: Wear Bright Colors to complement olive skin complexion.

Mannequin #1 (Casual Athletic Look): Fuchsia cashmere hoodie: Theory; Grey long-sleeve tee: Joseph; Grey pants: H&M; Burgundy suede purse: Coach; Lavender suede shoes: Sigerson Morrison

Rules:

  • An athletic look can work when colors coordinate and the clothes fit properly.
  • Zip up sweater halfway to create a nice V-line on the shirt.
  • Sweater should hit at the hip so it doesn't overwhelm the body.
  • T-shirt should be tucked in.
  • Using a T-shirt as a layer adds more depth.
  • Cut off pants should not be too wide, but should fit snuggly at the waist.
  • Look for wide toe flats that fit larger feet.
  • Look for shoes that are "dressier" than sneakers.

Mannequin #2 (Carrying the Career): Brown blazer: Zara; Cream silk blouse: Concept; Brown tweed skirt: Boss by Hugo Boss; Brown spectator pumps: Sigerson Morrison

Rules:

  • Darker earth tones come off more professionally.
  • Use clothes to structure the body into a feminine shape.
  • Colors can be mixed and matched.
  • V-line in blouse and jacket elongates the neckline.
  • Look for one-button jackets that will open up the top part of the body into a V-shape.
  • Do not wear jackets with shoulder pads, as the shoulders are already big.
  • Jacket structure should create more feminine look.
  • V-neck blouse elongates the neckline.
  • The dress should hit at the knees, which will make you look taller.
  • A-line skirt will effect a feminine look.
  • Shoes with rounder toes effect a curvier look.
  • If wearing heels, thicker ones will help you balance.

Mannequin #3 (Good Time Girl/Dating): Green silk blouse: Emanuel Ungaro; Black pants: Narciso Rodriguez; Black satin shoes: Gianfranco Ferre; Gold necklaces: H&M

Rules:

  • Glam it up with shimmering clothes to emphasize face.
  • Unbutton top of blouse to emphasize the face and cleavage.
  • Blouse color should be jewel-toned and bright because of olive skin complexion.
  • Good quality of fabric (like silk) is essential for bright colored clothes.
  • An elegant necklace on bare skin says emphasizes the face.
  • Pants should be high-waisted and sit on the body.
  • Narrow line on the leg makes pants look longer.
  • Pants must fit snugly on the thighs.
