Evan Farmer
Q&A

type size: [A] [A] [A]

We passed your questions on to Evan. See what he had to say!
Q:   Evan, Could you ever participate in While You Were Out? Maybe re-do a room for a loved one? Or do you think it's way too super stressful to be emotionally involved in the makeover? Don't answer this if it'll give away any secrets!
Tessa
A:   Tessa, I would absolutely love to participate in a show that involved someone close to me. For me it wouldn't be too stressful at all — actually it'd be just the opposite because I KNOW they'd forgive me if I screwed something up … I'd be way more stressed out doing a room for the family or friend of another WYWO team member.

Q:   Evan, Are you a boxers or briefs man???
Christy from Rancho Palos Verdes
A:   Christy, Thank you for asking! Actually I'm more of a hybrid type of guy … boxer-briefs. In case you're wondering for the sake of gift ideas, I usually go with Calvin's size 30-32.

Q:   Hey Evan Farmer, I'm a big fan of yours! You are very sexy. Are you married? Do you want to be?
From your best fan,
Meghan
A:   Meghan, Wow! Thanks! I am single, and yes I want to get married and have a plethora of kids (preferably in that order) … Unfortunately I'm traveling so much that it makes even meeting someone a little difficult right now!

Q:   Dear Evan: I think that you're unique as a host of this type of show because can utilize your existing carpentry and design experience. Is this part of why you chose to return to TV in this way, as opposed to in a sitcom or another musically-driven show?
Thanks,
Shanna
A:   Shanna, Thank you! I feel very fortunate to have found a way to combine my love for both entertainment and my passion for building things. I'd love to say that I "chose" to return to TV this way, but the reality of it is that I was heading more in the direction of my first love, which is music, when I was asked to join the show. I postponed the release of my solo album and had to cancel a few tours, but I've always believed in listening when opportunity knocks…so here I am!
Ps. To my incredible band, we're still releasing the album! Hang tight!

Q:   Hey, Evan, when are you gonna get back at Leslie? You should find an embarrassing baby picture, blow is up onto a tarp and drape it over the WYWO truck! Or … put the picture on t-shirts for the entire crew to wear.
Jeff
A:   Jeff, Great idea! Though by having the suggestion on the site it kind of blows the surprise! I tried to put a large spider on her shoulder once but failed miserably because I couldn't bring myself to pick it up. I think I'll lull her into complacency, and strike when least expected. Could be anytime, anywhere, Leslie!

Q:   Hey Evan, I always wondered what happened to you after 2gether. I was wondering if you still keep contact with the other guys in 2gether?
Nicole
A:   Nicole, Well, what happened to me after 2gether was that I became very involved with charities such as the Michael Cuccione Foundation (www.makingadifference.org) as well as various women's cancer charities in honor of my Mother's continuing successful battles with Breast and Ovarian cancer; ie. the Susan G. Komen Foundation (www.komen.org). In addition, I squeezed in a few TV Guest star roles, started working on my first major release solo album, and managed to weasel my way into playing "Young Number 2" in Austin Powers 3 in Goldmember. As far as keeping up with the other guys from 2gether, I speak to Kevin Farley quite frequently, as well as Michael Cuccione's family (I just saw them at an annual fundraiser last week), but have lost touch with Noah and Alex. Those two seem to change phone numbers with the seasons. I'm looking forward to a reunion someday!

Q:   What's your favorite book or movie of all time? What's your favorite structure/building in the world?
Tracy
A:   Tracy, Great question! Since my tastes change as I experience and see new things, my list of favorites is in a forever changing continuum. That being said, my current favorite movie would probably be "Life is Beautiful," favorite book would be The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, and as for building… hmm maybe the Cistine Chapel … or my apartment — toss up. Tough one though! I like the whole design concept behind the Seaside Community in Florida which was planned by the architects and city planners, Duany and Plater-Zyberk.

Q:   EF, Typical lame question I know, but if you were on an island, what's the one thing you'd want to have with you? Besides me?
Evelyn
A:   Evelyn, Could I cheat and say my family? Other than that, I'd go with Marilyn Monroe and if that weren't possible, I'd want an endless supply of Spam.

Q:   Evan, Who on the show do you get along with the most? Also, does the crew go out and do anything together when you aren't filming an episode?
Amanda
A:   Amanda, Luckily, I get along with everyone amazingly. I work with some of the most thoughtful, talented, and hysterical people I've ever met. It's far and away the best part about working on this show! We hang out together in each city we visit, but since we're all over the map when we're not shooting, it's not as easy to hang out then.

Q:   Are you ticklish, and if so, where?
Matilda
A:   Matilda, Yes, and I'm not telling.

Q:   Were you nervous the very first show?
Joshua
A:   Joshua, Hell yes! I had a huge role to fill after Teresa, and was I staring down the combined barrel of a 264-pound linebacker and two tornadoes, not to mention working with a group of people I'd only just met after watching them on TV for a year. It was intense but a great way to start …

Q:   Evan, Hey, I heard your music on your web site … do you have a cd available?
thanks, julie
A:   Julie, I am still recording for my upcoming CD. Due to the show, I had to postpone its release, but it's definitely still on its way!

Q:   Evan, Can you give us a brief bio? Maybe something a little more interesting that the cut-and-dried stuff in a typical bio? Something only your web fans can know … ? Quirky, fun stuff about the REAL Evan Farmer?
Michela
A:   Michela, Hmm … I'm actually very shy off camera for starters. I was born in Ethiopia in a Fiat garage. I love to fly — especially paragliding. I skydive, and I'm planning on getting a private pilot's license soon. Oh, and I travel with my pillow …

Q:   Evan, You are showcasing your talents in acting, music, and now as a TV personality, is there anything else you plan on doing?
Jessica
A:   Jessica, Nope! But then I really didn't plan on the other stuff either — I just kind of wander wherever my heart takes me and so far I've been very fortunate. Maybe someday I'll run for Governor of California.

Q:   re you having fun on While you were Out? Or is all that laughter just an act?
From Todd
A:   Todd, I've never had as much fun doing anything else — and got paid for it — in my life.

Q:   Hello, Evan Farmer, Do you consider yourself primarily a musician or an actor?
Cathy
A:   Cathy, I honestly have never felt like I needed to make the distinction. I don't do anything that I'm not 100% passionate about which keeps everything somewhat equal. The labels that I am ok with however, and more importantly care about, are Brother, Son, Friend, and hopefully someday Husband and Father.

Q:   There's obviously a lot of travel involved in producing this show. You being a musician, I would assume that you're used to being on the road all of the time. Well, ARE you used to it? And how different of a travelling experience is WYWO compared to your music career? Thanks!! Have fun, keep smiling!
Sincerely, Traci Wilson
A:   Traci, I grew up traveling since I was a baby. So in contrast, I never really got used to being in one place for a long time. That's a strong reason why I was attracted to entertainment in the first place. As far as traveling for this show is concerned, I prefer it to the music touring schedule because we actually stay in one city for more than a night — typically 10 days — so I actually get to explore and meet new people.

Q:   Evan, When and what made you decide to study architecture, design & drafting? My 12-year-old son has his sights on architecture-design for an occupation. Do you have any information that would be helpful for his future direction?
Thanks, Shelli from Oregon
A:   Shellie, I became interested in architecture as a career in high school, and ended up taking some college summer courses in drafting and design before applying to architecture schools. It just seemed to fit my personality to be involved in creating things and being hands on. The only thing I could recommend (because it helped me) is to allow your son to be exposed to as many different options before deciding exactly what works for him … In the end, architecture school was perfect for me but the working world ended up being way too sterile and stagnant and not nearly hands-on enough.

Q:   Hi Evan, you are doing a great job!!! Now for my question — How do the producers choose where to do a show?
Thanks, Pam
A:   Pam, Well, I make all of the decisions and I take bribes. Since you probably don't believe that — it is my understanding that locations are chosen first based on variety (we try not to repeat the same types of places). And of coarse the people who are the focus of the show must have an interesting story and engaging personalities. Then it comes down to time of year and the location's climate. For instance, we would try to avoid Florida during hurricane season. That's about it. Bottom line — it has to be interesting, relatively safe, and new.

Q:   Evan: I have TWO questions for you: How old are you? How tall are you? The third question is will you marry me, but I don't expect an answer to that. Hahaha.
Keep up the good work on the show, Amaryliss
A:   Amaryliss,
First of all, you have a beautiful name! As for your 2 questions? I'm extremely young, and getting taller … and marriage? Let's take it slow for now … maybe meet first, take long moonlit walks getting to know each other, fall madly in love, get a prenup … ya know, I'm a traditional kind of guy.

Q:   Hey Evan, Have you ever worked on a project and messed it all up?
Marie
A:   Marie, I'm assuming you're referring to a project on the show?! And the answer would be that depends on who's judging. I've messed up plenty by my own standards for sure, and likely by others' standards as well. But messing up is how we learn. Cliche, but true!

Q:   What musicians do you admire? What architects inspire you?
Sparky
A:   Sparky, I admire every musician for being willing to put their vulnerabilities out there and express themselves in a world of very harsh criticism. That being said, I'm most inspired by some of the lesser know bands and up-and-coming artists such as, Tiaa 66, Joe McKinney, Jump Little Children (I could go on, but that's the idea). The new music pioneers so to speak. As for architects, let me just start by saying that I'm not a huge Frank Lloyd Wright fan. While I can appreciate his contribution to architecture, I personally feel like his spaces lack a necessary element of human comfort. But then, that wasn't necessarily his goal. As for my taste, I've been more drawn to the ideas of the Duany and Plater-Zyberk team and that of Carlos Scarpa — very different from each other yet entirely innovative, human oriented, and artistic designers.
