Mondray is indebted to her grandmother, Cassie, who is not only helping to put her granddaughter through nursing school, but she has also let her move in so Mondray can be closer to the campus. To express her gratitude to grandma, Mondray called in While You Were Out to makeover her favorite home hangout — the patio. Cassie's home is next to I-95, so the sound of the speeding cars is constant.

While You Were Out landscape designer Peter BonSey plans to turn this noisy patio into an art deco boardwalk reminiscent of an oceanfront property in South Beach. To combat the deafening sound of traffic, carpenter Andrew Dan-Jumbo constructs a seven-foot-tall water fountain. The idea behind it is for the falling water to drown out the din of rush hour. Carpenter Leslie Segrete builds an actual boardwalk to separate the space. To cover the concrete of the patio, Peter has ordered a whopping two tons of sand to turn the patio into a little backyard beach. But with only two wheelbarrows, the task of getting the sand into place becomes daunting. PVC pipe is used as a decorative accent throughout the space; the pipes are painted in the perfect art deco palette — pink, green, and yellow. Any fan of art deco would fall in love with Peter's design.

Herein lies the biggest problem: while Cassie is away visiting her sister, our cameraman (posing as a journalist interested in Cassie's charity work) discovers that she doesn't like art deco design. What will she think when she arrives home to find her backyard transformed in a style she dislikes? Will this art deco dream turn into a Miami mishap?
