Michael doesn't allow himself to get attached to the interior design of his house. His wife, Carolyn, is a decorating lunatic. Much of their house in New Jersey has been rag-rolled, marbled and mosaiced. Their bedroom has been redecorated at least three times. Michael, a finance broker, contacted While You Were Out because he sensed that Carolyn was about to attack the bedroom again.
Carolyn has a busy life, working as a hairdresser and caring for their three children. To get her out of the house, Michael enlisted her co-workers at the salon as well as her sister, Denise. They were all in on the secret and kept her busy with a series of fictitious babysitting requests and fake conferences. Members of the While You Were Out secret filming trip trailed her for two days, making sure she was kept out of the house and unaware of the changes going on in her bedroom at home. She didn't suspect a thing!
Designer Chayse Dacoda went for a 'medieval romantic' look by creating a central canopy around the bed and maximizing the room's high ceilings. More than one hundred yards of burgundy and cream fabrics contributed to this regal room. The dark 'mission style' furniture in the room was painted and stained in cream and the fabric used to conceal the television in the corner.
