Shelly is a mother of two who works in marketing. Her husband, Tom, is a golf professional who has recently been employed with a line of fitness centers in the Midwest. Having two young daughters has taken its toll on Shelly and Tom. Since moving into their house a short while ago, they've spent all of their time taking care of the children. The bedroom is full of furniture for the children, such as a colossal beanbag and a rocking chair for lulling their youngest to sleep. For Shelly and Tom, the bedroom is neither intimate nor romantic.
Shelly realizes that since Tom is starting a new job, she has a perfect opportunity to get him out of the house for two days. Working with Tom's new boss, Shelly manages to have Tom sent to Detroit for new job training and orientation. His boss has told Tom that they are making a corporate training video, and an undercover While You Were Out team member has posed as a corporate video producer. While Tom is busy trying to impress his new boss, Shelly is back home working hard to create a room that will impress him.
To create that tranquil romantic sanctuary for Shelly and Tom, Stephen Saint-Onge has plans to turn to the room into a softly lit spa, with masculine overtones. To do this, almost everything in the room must go. Stephen's plans include painting the room in dark green and copper, building a free standing wall in the middle of the room, as well as adding a storage area behind a newly-suspended curtain. Along the walls will be a ledge for votive candles inside Stephen's homemade soup-can candle holders.
While Stephen's extremely ambitious hopes of constructing a wall from scratch take longer than anticipated, questions arise about just how well Shelly knows Tom's taste. When host Anna Bocci quizzes Shelly about Tom, Shelly continues to get the answers wrong. Does Shelly know Tom as well as she thinks she does? Are our carpenters Andrew and Leslie working themselves to the bone for a room Tom may not even like? Watch and find out.
