New parents, Jackie and Nick are short on time, money and the energy to convert their 'finished' basement into a livable space. In addition to being a mother, Jackie also works part time and goes to school. Jackie's best friend Carrie, and Nick have decided that it's about time someone gave Jackie a couple of days off, and a new basement.
Designer Mark Montano and the While You Were Out team arrive ready to rise to the challenge of converting a circa 1970s wood paneled basement into a hip retro fifties hangout for Jackie and her friends. While Jackie and Nick are in Newport, Rhode Island, learning how to blow glass and admiring the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, Carrie and company are hard at work giving the basement an artistic new paint job, new carpeting, a re-vamped bar and a built in entertainment center.
As the pieces fall into place, Carrie starts to get nervous. Is Mark Montano's Fifties lounge a little too retro for Jackie, or is it the perfect escape from her demanding reality? Watch and find out.
