Deborah contacted WYWO in an effort to thank her husband, Tom, for his patience and hard work on their first home. When Deb and Tom moved into their house, they knew it was a fixer-upper but had no idea what lay in store for them. The roof leaks, the floors are uneven, the kitchen cabinets don't close and that's just for starters. Tom has worked tirelessly, on his time off from the FDNY and his two other part-time jobs, to start minor repairs on the house, but there's still a long way to go.
Detached from the home is a finished garage already outfitted with a pool table and tacky bar — but that's it. Deb wants to create a boys haven for her husband: a place where he can retire with his friends to drink a beer, smoke a cigar, shoot some pool, and escape from the worry and drain of what Deb refers to as "the money pit."
With the help of twin brother Rocco, Tom is packed off to Jim Thorpe, Pa., for a weekend of fun and relaxation and the WYWO team, with a little timely help from Ali's FDNY husband, Chris, get to work on turning the garage into the kind of room any sports-loving guy would be proud of.
