There's a saying that goes something like this: For every step forward, there are first a few steps backward. Such is the case on this episode of WYWO, as the team comes to grips with the most challenging urban location they've ever had to handle, in the city that never sleeps, New York!
David Boxer wants to create a backyard retreat for his writer-wife, Emily, who's been feeling a little stressed by her hectic New York lifestyle. So, David called for help from designer John Bruce and the WYWO team, with the hope that they can work some of their magic in the historic Sugar Hill area of Harlem. While Emily is off on an arts weekend in Montauk, Long Island, husband David and the WYWO crew will labor furiously behind her back to remake their yard, which is nothing more than a mud pit.
What David and the WYWO carpenters don't know is that they are in for a little heavy lifting. John's designs for this "Sugar Hill Hideout" require two tons of concrete. So, how do you move a huge quantity of concrete to a back yard that is only accessible through the brownstone? The answer: down two flights of stairs and through the basement, that's how! We know that every member of the team has a broad back, we know that they're all strong and highly motivated, but John, puhleeeese … it hurts just to watch — though, of course, we'll do it anyway.
