When your so-called Great Room isn't so great, it's time for the WYWO team to get in there and whip it into shape worthy of its name. Homeowner Ed says his wife, Dianne, deserves this new room because she's his best friend and the nicest person he knows; her biggest gripe about the room is that it is dominated by a huge brick fireplace. Designer Chayse Dacoda takes her inspiration from the homeowners' love for the Maine coast, as she transforms a rather boring rectangle into a cozy Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage.

Host Evan Farmer, along with carpenters Jason Cameron and Ali Barone, finds that Chayse has taken the theme sky-high, or at least up to the ceiling. The room's centerpiece is a lighthouse-inspired spiral-staircase bookcase that sends Jason close to spiraling out of control. He's left the job until it's almost too late, because of other problems. Let's just say the designer and the carpenter didn't measure with the same tape.

Meanwhile Ed and Dianne's teenage daughter probably wishes she didn't skip school, because her WYWO project involves a big bag of scallop shells, a power drill and many yards of filament. It's all supposed to make an atmospheric shell chandelier, but first it causes a change in the weather for our homeowner. The normally affable and agreeable Ed confesses his true feelings in a video diary, when he promises to let the chandelier stay in his room "the day Chayse Dacoda hangs one in her house."

Meanwhile Ali may have preferred wrestling a pair of Maine lobsters to taking on the task Chayse assigned: converting a genuine lobster trap into a pair of end tables. And in the midst of it all, Chayse decides a group craft project is in order — halting all work to pour colored sand into vases. Luckily only a little sand gets spilled.
