Dr. Inas Anderson
As we all do, I wear several hats in my day-to-day activities. First and foremost, I am the mom of three awesome kids: Julia, Olivia and Joseph. It is a challenge and a humbling blessing to watch them grow and nurture their own individual personalities and interests.
I have been married for 18 years to Kevin Anderson, my friend and partner in life. Without him and his daily support as a dad and husband, our family would not be as it is. He is very involved with the kids, coaching Julia's basketball team for five years and Olivia's soccer team for six years. Joe has now asked him to be his soccer coach; we'll see how many hours we can put in a day. We subscribe to the saying that the family who plays together stays together. Achieving this is easier on most nights than having dinner together, although we strive to do that too. Kevin works as a financial analyst.
Kevin and I both grew up in Maryland. I was born in Kumasi, Ghana, to Egyptian parents. With both their families still in Egypt, my parents and I came to the United States when I was 3 years old. It became clear to me after my seventh-grade science (biology) class that I wanted to be a physician. The human body seemed unbelievable, and to be able to keep such an incredible structure healthy seemed to be a great thing. As an undergrad, I studied at The George Washington University, where I received a B.S. in biology and went on to attend medical school. Afterward, I did my residency at Children's Hospital, also in Washington, D.C. My deep interest in pediatrics evolved from witnessing the wonderful ability of kids to be so resilient in healing, and from experiencing the joy and privilege of being a part of a family’s life. I have been a partner at Primary Pediatrics since 1998. Today, I see kids whom I began with at the start of my practice going to college as accomplished students, athletes and musicians. Watching your patients grow up is what pediatrics is all about. We also have our share of healing to do and trips to the hospital to take, to care for the children in our practice who are sick enough to be admitted. Our practice is growing and young.
As my children grow older, I'm finding it easier to regain some of my hobbies. I have started reading again. I also play tennis, walk/run, volunteer at Joe's school as needed, participate on several church worship boards and enjoy teaching Sunday school.
