When and where was your wedding?
Ryon and I made a lifetime commitment to each other on July 20, 2007, before our family and friends at the Disney's Grand Floridian Wedding Pavilion in Orlando, Fla. The ceremony was scheduled for 7:30 p.m., which coincided with the setting of the sun, creating the most romantic setting for our ceremony. The wedding pavilion is situated on an island branched off from the main grounds. It is connected by a beautiful white bridge, surrounded by palm trees and a mini beach.
How did you meet your fiance?
We initially met through a mutual friend at a dinner party, which was very brief. However, we met again through the same friend at another event, and he enticed me with his handsome looks, humorous personality and intellectual conversation that somehow led to me suggesting we meet again. The following weekend we met up, and the rest is history!
How did he propose?
Ryon surprisingly orchestrated a well-executed plan for the formal engagement. We both knew we wanted to get married to each other, but it was just a matter of formality. I know Ryon's first task was to ask my parents for permission and to have my hand in marriage, and then I guess the planning had begun. My best friend decided to have her wedding on New Year's Eve in Guyana. I was asked to be a bridesmaid and accepted. She was the "mutual friend" who had introduced Ryon to me that night at the dinner party. Ryon had also planned on attending the wedding. His grand proposal took place at the 10-second countdown. At the stroke of midnight, he slipped this magnificent ring on my finger and asked me to marry him. Fireworks were flaring in the background, making it the most perfect proposal I could have ever imagined.
What were you looking for in a gown?
Since I was having a fairy-tale wedding, I pictured myself wearing a ballroom-style gown accented with tons of beading and sparkle. So, I instantly ruled out slim-fitting gowns. The next step was to have a gown that was somewhat light and breathable, so that I wouldn't be overheated due to the destination (Orlando). Plus, it had to shape me perfectly.
Did you know anything about gowns before you had to shop for one?
Besides the routine magazine search and the highlighted well-known wedding-dress designers, I didn't know too much about types of materials, beadings, styles and shapes to suit your body, etc. I knew that when I went dress shopping, it was going to be a crash course on wedding dresses 101.
